You Might Be a Mother If . . . (FREE Book GIVEAWAY)

Post image for You Might Be a Mother If . . . (FREE Book GIVEAWAY)

One late night as I settled into bed, I reached over to my bedside table for my book. I thought to myself, “You might be a mother if . . . you’ve long ago said goodbye to your bedside candles and decorations and replaced them with an ugly tissue box for the runny nose that the family is passing around, a BIG can of Bag Balm for chapped little noses, a pray-aloud Precious Moments doll and a display of Lego Creations. And you really might be a mother if you’re reading Your Child’s Strengths instead of a juicy romance novel!” The next day I shared my, “You might be a mother if . . .” thoughts with Joyce. She proceeded to take a picture scavenger hunt in my house. Mothers, can you relate?

You might be a mother if . . . bath tub

You might be a mother if . . . your bathtub is full of toys rather than aromatherapy bubble bath and sea salts.

You might be a mother if . . . kitchen island.

You might be a mother if . . . your kitchen island doubles as a construction site.

You might be a mother if . . . airplane construction.

You might be a mother if . . . you have at least one million paper airplanes lying around your home!

You might be a mother if . . . fresh flowers

You might be a mother if . . . you’ve always got a fresh, backyard-picked bouquet of flowers displayed in your window (and you love those little flowers more than a 2 dozen bouquet of red roses).

You might be a mother if . . . paper airplanes flying.

You might be a mother if . . . you have paper airplanes flying in your kitchen.

You might be a mother if . . . antique sofa & laundry.

You might be a mother if . . . it’s laundry day and the antique sofa you inherited from your husband’s grandmother is covered with clean clothes waiting to be hung-up or folded. (I’m sure your home never looks like this. I’m just shameful!)

You might be a mother if . . . mini-dino.

You might be a mother if . . . you have a miniature dinosaur made of model magic displayed right next to great-grandmother’s set of silver salt & pepper shakers.

You might be a mother if . . . valentine's decorations.

You might be a mother if . . . you have Valentine’s decorations hanging from your dinning room “chandelier” and it’s APRIL! (But how can I take these down? MacGyver made them as a surprise for his Daddy.)

You might be a mother if . . . airplane flying in dinning room.

You might be a mother if . . . you have to dodge the paper airplanes flying in your dinning room.

You might be a mother if . . . headband.

You might be a mother if . . . a little fairy left her sparkly headband on the sofa.

You might be a mother if . . . LOVE framed.

You might be a mother if . . . a framed scrap of paper with the word LOVE written to you is more valuable to you than an original Monet! (And I’m in awe of Monet! But I’m more in awe of the little artists that live in my house.)

Love You Forever Book Giveaway

Love You Forever

If you are a mother . . . you need this book!  If you have a mother . . . you need to give her this book!  If you know someone who is a mother . . . you need to give her this book! If you know someone who is going to be a mother . . . you need to give her this book!

For years, I read this book to the children in my classroom. And every time I read it aloud to my students, I teared-up and got a lump in my throat. Well, when I had MacGyver, my friend gave me another copy. MacGyver was a tiny baby and I tried to read it. I couldn’t. Almost seven years later, I still can’t read this without crying. Not a little cry but a big cry! And now I have two little monkeys to cry about. Being a Mommy makes me crazy and want to pull my hair out almost every day. But thinking of these two little unique personalities growing-up and moving away makes me even crazier and want to cry somemore! Being a mommy is an emotional roller coaster.

You might be a mother if you can imagine what a joy and addition a child can be to a family (or the world) as they are growing in your belly. And you can’t wait to meet them and begin to show them all the wonders and joys of the world.

You might be a mother if you have ever taken a drink from a sippy cup, you have “cleaned” a paci by licking it before you gave it to your child, and the backseat of your car is scattered with shoes, toys and cherios.

*Don’t feel bad Jeannine, my clean laundry pile is twice that!!

You might be a mother if you find great joy in very small things: a child’s head resting on your shoulder, “drive by hugs,” potty training successes, bedtime rituals, watching your child learn something new, and finding that perfect toy (for today, of course) that puts a smile on her face.

And you definitely know you’re a mom if you’ve seen “Finding Nemo” at least 50 times in the last year. :)

Rebecca Matschek May 9, 2010 at 3:20 pm

(Taken from my real life this last week.) You might be a mother if you spent the last week house hunting with your husband in another city…no kids in sight…eating out every meal and staying in a hotel…and couldn’t wait to get home yesterday to start another week of cooking, cleaning, and loving those wonderful kids that I missed so much! Am I crazy???

Stacey Keisling June 8, 2010 at 10:28 pm

…if you spent an outrageous amount of money on Facebook for cheesey wine glasses that say, “OMG, I so need a glass of wine or I am going to sell my kids!”
