Ghosts of Halloween Past

Warning this Halloween post is Scary! Frighting! Down right traumatic! We’ll be visiting Ghosts of Halloween Past. And some of these ghosts are truly haunting! For some people, Halloween is all about horror and terror. Well, the same goes for our family; however, the horror is all of those homemade Halloween costumes we’ve worn through the years! We don’t know if it’s the frugal German in us but we just can’t bring ourselves to buy those costumes off the rack.

We wish you a Merry Christmas. We wish you a Merry Christmas. Wait this is a Halloween post!

Drum roll please . . . witness the worst Halloween costume ever known to man . . . at age three Jeannine was actually dressed as a Christmas tree for Halloween. What kind of sick joke is that?

The next year, our mother actually had a weak moment and bought this princess mask for Jeannine. Say it isn’t so, a store bought mask?! It must have snowed that Halloween in South Texas. Jeannine coveted this store bought mask.

So what happens when the first grandchild is added to the Halloween mix? You dress him and Jeannine up as matching cats.  Really they are cats. No we promise, those are suppose to be cat costumes!

We’re not even sure what to say . . . Jeannine as Raggedy Andy and meet our little niece Minnie Mouse.

Our niece Minnie Mouse grew-up to have her own little Minnie Mouse.

Not sure how it all evolved but Halloween has become an official family tradition. We all gather together, put together our homemade costumes and go trick or treating together. Last year during our homeschool project time, MacGyver envisioned and made his Dinosaur costume.

“Wait, did you see the back of my dinosaur? I made this all by myself and I’m really proud!”

“This is a stick-up! Give me all of your Halloween Candy!”

“Uh, oh! How do mimes say, ‘trick or treat?!’ And by the way, can anyone help me get out of this box?”

If you’ve seen the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail you know who I am! The best part of the movie is what I am!”

“Yes, I’m only four days old but I’m ready to hit the trick or treating route!”

“Hey Little Devil, want to celebrate our birthdays together again next Halloween?”

“You got it Little Fairy. Same place, same time, another birthday celebration next Halloween!”

“It’s a date!”

Have you ever experienced a Halloween costume nightmare?

How funny! My favorite are the cat costumes. My daughter has planned to be a mime next Halloween..this year she’s going to be a flapper from the 20’s…an American Girl book spawned this idea last year and she didn’t forget…so I’m sure next year she’ll remember the mime.

Love this post! Maybe that is just because I am the cute “little niece”. Sad that Grandson #3’s Jack Sparrow costume didn’t make the cut;). It was so creative to be all homemade. Will miss you guys this year!!!
