We first published this FREE printable book last spring. As we celebrate Easter this weekend, it seemed like the perfect time to revisit this mommy duck and her eggs. Happy Easter!
We try to get our children “out in the world” as much as possible. As children, we spent many hours with our parents at our small town park. It really is a great park with natural springs and everything! Now our own children (and grandchildren!) enjoy the same park. During a recent visit to the park we found a duck nest!
When I started kindergarten homeschooling with MacGyver, I found myself in need of easy, INEXPENSIVE books for reading. I’ve made bunches of mostly nonfiction type books to go with our theme studies. I started thinking, “Wow, I wish I had been able to make these books when I was in the classroom.” And then Joyce said, “Wow, these are great little books for preschool/early readers.” These books will never win a Caldecott Medal!!! And these little books don’t have the zing and zip or rhythm and rhyme of a Bill Martin Jr. classic. But these little books are FREE to you! They are simple, pattern books that build a core of “known” words for beginning readers.
So here is a little book you can print for your child, your guided reading group, or your home-school child. At the end of the story look for the printable link.
I See A Nest
I see the white ducks in the park.
I see a brown goose in the park.
I see a white feather in the park.
Look, I see a nest in the park.
I see 1, 2, 3, 4 eggs in the nest.
I see the mommy duck coming.
I see the mommy duck counting the eggs in the nest.
I see the mommy duck sitting on the eggs in the nest.
I see a duckling!
(Don’t worry nature lovers, we didn’t handle the ducklings in the park! This picture is from another outing.)
