Halloween Book GIVEAWAY: Here Comes Halloween by Caroline Jayne Church

Why we love this book:

It’s a darn cute book! That’s why! A pirate? A dinosaur? A bat? So many choices! What should this little boy be for Halloween? Young children will adore these costume ideas and bright illustrations. An excellent book for brainstorming Halloween costume ideas with preschoolers and kindergarteners. The children will also enjoy acting out the actions on each page, “A dinosaur who shakes the ground.”

It’s that time of year again. Time for the children to make their Halloween costumes! MacGyver has decided that this Halloween he is going to be a Star Wars Stormtrooper, but of course I refuse to buy the $40.00 costume from Target. He better get busy making a costume . . . I’m glad that I have a creative child!

Now I just have to figure out how to make Miss Enigma into super-dog Bolt, the Disney Character. Oh Aunt Jennifer, please help me!

Last year we shared our family tradition of making homemade Halloween costumes. Some have been much more successful than others! I’m not sure how Grandson #2 came up with the idea for a mime, but I thought it was extremely clever.

Need some ideas? Here’s a little inspiration to get you going . . . start with a coconut . . .

My daughter is going to be Lady Lilac from Elsa Beskow’s The Flowers’ Festival. I’m still working on the lilac flowers to attach to the dress Grandma made to my daughter’s specifications.
My son is going as Buzz Lightyear. I purchased the costume eons ago on sale when he was just a baby and he loves it dearly.

I was going to have both the boys costumes done by August this year. Well it is now Oct. 21 and we haven’t even started. Oh well, we still have 10 more days to pull something together.

We always make homemade, but simple, Halloween costumes, and in the past, we’ve stuck with the old standbys: witches, ghosts, skeletons … But this year, we’re all a little older and branching out into new ambitious ideas. On our radar: a butterfly, a lion, and a teddy bear!

They will probably change their mind again, we have lots to choose from. I go a little crazy during the after Halloween sales and stock our dress up bins. Currently, Bethany wants to be Madeline and Connor is planning on Buzz Lightyear. We will see…
