In my last post, I shared a FREE printable book titled “My Big Day Exploring“ about an adventure I experienced with my toddler grandson right on our deck. That was just the beginning of our explorations. See what happened when we stepped off of the deck into the big wide world . . .
I’ve been teaching preschool for over 30 years and one big lesson I’ve learned is that less is more. In the past, I found myself getting caught up in themes, learning centers, art activities and structured learning experiences. No more. I have been set free from all of that high maintenance preparation. Spontaneous learning is priceless and free exploration can never be matched by artificial learning activities. I find such joy watching my grandson grow and learn through his experiences with nature.
Look Grandma, I can spin the tire. See how fast it goes!
I found a box. Let’s look inside!
Never mind it’s empty.
Grandma, the big boys made this. Can I get inside?
Wait, I see something! It’s a big bug. It’s pretty scary!
Let me out of here!
Here’s another teepee. Grandma there are two teepees.
One more teepee. The big boys made three teepees!
Let me help! Oh no, something in my eye.
Ouch, that hurt.
What’s that Grandma? I hear something. It’s a cicada.
Good thing I wore my boots. It’s dangerous out here.
Grandma come see. This rock has some holes in it. How did those holes get in there?
I’m very thirsty!
Can’t get your three-year-old to take an afternoon nap? Take an adventure: walk, explore, have great conversation, balance, climb, count, listen, have some juice and crash. Nap time just happens!

cute post.
I love those cow boy boots. So great that you let him sleep on the floor. He looks like he had soo much fun.
What a fun day out!
