A Pottage Garden (or a potager in French ) is a term for an ornamental vegetable or kitchen garden.
Plants are chosen for their edibility and for their color and form. The herbs in this potager are both ornamental and readily available for cooking.
Many plants are trained to grow upward. A well-designed potager can provide food, cut flowers and herbs for the home with very little maintenance and space. You can see the squash growing up the trellis on one side and the roses spilling over the sides on the other. Be still my heart! I see a hammer, nail and dirt in my near future!
I like how these small pottage gardens are used as a screen in-front of an air conditioner and electrical boxes.
These charming pottage garden photos are from our visit to Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard in South Texas. They welcome visitors Tuesday thru Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Every Saturday at 11 a.m. they offer an informative Orchard Tour on the process of growing olive trees and pressing olive oil. I encourage you to stay for lunch. Delicious use of the pottage herbs!
I’ve already picked out the spot for my potager! I can’t wait to get my hands dirty.
My husband is such a good sport; I’ve always got a project up my sleeve! Thank you to my Man of Steel for helping me with Our recent DIY Weekend Trellis project.
The pottage garden also reminds me of our square foot garden project. Happy planting and growing.
