In 2009, I innocently boarded a plane with a group of total strangers to work with Asia’s Hope, a Grass Roots organization rescuing orphans in Cambodia. Two things happened while on that trip. First, I fell head over heals in love with an irresistible group of children. My church now sponsors four of these rescued children and we have a life time relationship with them. To say we love them is an understatement! Look at them . . . so sweet!
In stark contrast to the new life these children are living, I had to face the shocking reality of the sex trafficking of children. Before my 2009 trip, I was completely ignorant to the horrors of sex trafficking. I never could have imagined such evil existed. Last summer, I returned to Cambodia to train teachers in a community well known for the sex trafficking of children. In preparation, I read Terrify No More by Gary Haugen which chronicles the brothel raid of young children that took place in the community in which I volunteered. As I read the book my stomach churned, I grit my teeth and I knew that God was planting a seed of action.
“Jada Pinkett Smith is a tireless advocate for victims of human trafficking, and has made it her mission to end the exploitation of these women and young children. ” Katie Couric Show
Yesterday, Jada Pinkett Smith appeared on the Katie Couric Show to bring awareness to the modern day slavery of human trafficking. You may be shocked to find out that the sex trafficking of children is occurring right here in The United States. You don’t have to travel to Cambodia to fight human trafficking and slave labor.
