The facility only ask for a $3.00 donation! Are you kidding me? The good work that this rescue hospital does is worth more than the $3.00 donation. Children have the opportunity to get up close to the turtles and make a compassionate connection. So much better than watching them through a glass at an aquarium.

Sea Turtle, Inc.’s facility serves as a rehabilitation center for sick and injured sea turtles. These good people rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles. This is a small facility but extremely child friendly, relaxed and educational.

There are wee little, baby turtles rescued along the beach.

Adorable!

There are medium junior turtles and great big old guys.

Some sea turtles are permanent residents at the facility. Sea turtles that do not have 75% of their flippers are deemed unsuitable for wild life. These injured turtles gave me a great big lump in my throat. I am very sensitive when it comes to animals and these quiet creatures really tugged at my heart.

These permanent residents act as educators and ambassadors for sea turtle conservation.

Sea Turtle, Inc. also has a mission to educate the public and promote conservation awareness. The facility teaches about sea turtles, their environment and the different sea turtle species.  The staff is very friendly and informative.

Family Friendly South Padre Island

The center rehabilitates 40-100+ sea turtles each year for return to the wild.

The day of our visit there were several new arrivals in the hospital. Again, the children are given the opportunity to view the turtles up close and to ask questions. Sweet little thing!

This cutie was a newborn. Teeny, tiny little thing. He had air bubbles in his lungs and twirled around uncontrollably in the water. I so wanted to take home this little squirt.

I was telling my husband about this place on our way home from church tonight (that was before I read this post!). I looked on their website to try to find the exact location. Is it anywhere near an airport, by any chance? Thanks for this post. I’m excited to see the live cam…very cool! :)

Tara, you can fly Southwest Airlines into Harlingen, Texas. From Harlingen South Padre Island is about a 40 minutes drive.

Hi Lyle,It is always good to hear from you. It amazes me as well; God is often doing the same thing in you (and so many others). I think he does this so we can battle together, for each otsa.rThenkh,Sam

I made this on the weekend – so delicious that four of us ate a very large potful between us! I fried up the meat and flavourings on the stove then left in braising in the slow cooker all day – perfect. Thanks for a great recipe.
