Fall Leaves Book GIVEAWAY

Book of the Week GIVEAWAY: Two Book Fall GIVEAWAY!

  • The Fox and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson
  • Leaves by David Ezra Stein

Why we love these books:

These two books share a common fall theme . . . Both Fox and Bear become concerned when the leaves begin falling from the trees. They gently try to put the leaves back onto the trees but to no avail, the leaves just keep falling. Bear gets sleepy and uses the leaves to make a soft comfy winter bed. Fletcher the fox on the other hand decides to save one little leaf from his favorite tree. He makes it a cozy little bed and gently tucks it in. (so sweet) One morning, Fletcher awakes to find his favorite tree shivering and laughing in the sunshine covered with a thousand sparkling icicles. Bear on the other hand sleeps right through the winter and is happily welcomed into spring by tiny leaves beginning to unfold.

Fall Leaves Book GIVEAWAY

My children were particularity drawn to the illustrations in The Fox and the Falling Leaves. They have become quite good at studying the details of the artwork and identifying the media used. The pastel, full-color art illustrations have a very dreamy quality to them. Later in the day the kiddos were busy experimenting with their pastels and water color paints.

We are welcoming fall by enjoying the hot air balloons at the Balloon Fiesta here in NM. This is my favorite time of year!

Roxanna Alcantra October 8, 2013 at 10:09 pm

We have enjoyed collecting fall leaves and using them for color activities, counting activities and sorting sizes!

Gidget October 8, 2013 at 10:52 pm

We are planning a weenie roast soon – just finished cleaning out some underbrush and with the temperature dropping, it will be time soon!

Robin October 8, 2013 at 11:25 pm

We like to paint with pine cones, we use three colors and let them dry between each roll around the box. I give the children three different leaf patterns for them to trace on the dried painting, we them help them cut out the leaf. They are very pretty with the fall colors and the pine cones leave nice paint marks. There is a book called we are going on a leaf hunt we read that and really go outside on a leaf hunt.

We love to visit a pumpkin patch and corn maze each year. It is especially fun for the older kids to go to the maze at night. Usually there is also an opportunity to roast marshmallows.

Jeannine October 9, 2013 at 7:44 am

Dianne, we have a maze in our area but we’ve never been able to make the drive. I hope this year we can fit it in to our fall schedule!
Our kiddos looooooove roasting marshmallows. I better grab a bag!

Jeannine October 9, 2013 at 7:46 am

Oh Stasia, I am jealous! I’ve always wanted to go the Balloon Fiesta! It looks amazingly beautiful.

Tiffany October 9, 2013 at 7:50 am

We are celebrating with lots and lots of outside time before winter hits.

Roxanna Alcantra October 9, 2013 at 5:21 pm

We love collecting leaves and using them for preschool activities.

Tanya October 9, 2013 at 6:00 pm

We are in South Texas there is not much to celebrate when it comes to the changing seasons. =) But, I don’t let that stop our festivities and activities. One thing I do every year is start making lots of pumpkin recipes. My husband love this time of year and my cooking.

Robin October 9, 2013 at 10:08 pm
