Life with Jeannine

A Father’s Day Tribute

Do you have a rock in your life?  You know the person who is always ready to hold you up when your knees start to buckle underneath you.  I’m lucky because I have an exceptional circle of support around me.  God has generously blessed me with faith, family and friends.  But apparently there is only one person in this world that I trust enough to witness the totally real me: The good, the Bad and the Ugly. That one person would be My Man of Steel.

My story is a little unique in the fact that I’m still in love with my high school sweetheart.  After having all of these years to actually grow-up together as a couple, I’ve come to think of him as My Man of Steel.  You see, I’m upbeat, perky and a stop and smell the roses kind of gal.

That is when I’m not a totally stressed-out, where is the light at the end of the tunnel, basket-case kind of gal.  There’s not much in-between for me. Fortunately, most people only experience the perky me.

On the other end of the spectrum, My Man of Steel is always even.  I’ve recently come to realize that my thinking of him as the Man of Steel is more appropriate than I ever recognized.  Like Clark Kent, he comes across as kind and mild-mannered.  Never calling attention to himself but always maintaining a sense of assertiveness.  But let me assure you he is always in the background ready to save the day.  Which is his ongoing job in our home.  When I’m off the deep end about how life has unfairly served-up some unexpected craziness, he leaps into the scene to save the day.  Sometimes this actually makes me mad because it’s more fun to throw a fit than act like a reasonable human being, but where would I be without his steady hand?  Regardless of what life throws his way, he takes it like another bullet that has unfazed him.  I often tell my friends, “He is like The Man of Steel, if I had to deal with ‘that’ I would be a puddle on the ground.”

In our family he is our rock. And for almost thirty years he has been my best friend and My Man of Steel.

And imagine all of this without a cape and tights! Happy Father’s Day to our family’s Man of Steel!

Who is your rock?

Meet our stray dog Shadow. He was rescued from the streets. It’s apparently true that love is blind. I saw this photo of Shadow on petfinder.com and I thought he was cute. I showed the photo to MacGyver, who had relentlessly been begging for a dog, and he was quick to decide, “That looks like [...]

Meet Miss Enigma

We have a little enigma living in our home.  We brought our daughter home from the hospital and in between day-after-day, day-after-day, and then a bunch more days-after-days of no sleep, she kept us wondering, “What will her personality be like?”  For about the first 10 months of her life she was a total enigma [...]

Stop, wait, if you haven’t read Meet MacGyver: Part 1, you might want to start there. But who knows, it might not make a bit of difference where you start. Okay, you’ve already gotten a vision of MacGyver making something out of nothing to save the day . . .  Now throw in Max from [...]

Meet MacGyver

My son MacGyver, age 6, pretty much makes something out of nothing every day of his life.  When he was about age three we started noticing his Lego airplanes were pretty darn impressive.  But hey, I can only make square houses with the Legos so what do I know? Then he started making “stuff.” He [...]

Life with Jeannine

Well, I guess I’m a rather unconventional, conventional person.  At least that’s what I’ve been told.  In my past life, I didn’t have children.  And my husband and I did things like frequent movies without cartoon characters, dined out at restaurants with candlelight instead of playground equipment and went on trips that required a passport [...]

Life with Joyce

I have come to the conclusion that I am probably living my life backwards.  I suppose I should have stayed at home when my children were little.  You know the saying, “should of . . . would of . . . could of . . . .”  I guess I would of stayed at home, [...]
