Book of the Week GIVEAWAY: Me and You by Genevieve Cote

Why we love this book:

Look at these two little friends. Aren’t you already in love with them? They are just too cute to resist! Charming, gentle illustrations and simple text send a big message about friendship and individuality! Rabbit and Pig like each other so much they try to be more like each other. They discover that they actually like each other better just the way they are! They learn that both of them are unique and special works of art.

Read this to someone you love. Then tell them how unique and special they are.

Teaching Children How to Stitch Homemade Valentine Cards

Supplies:

  • white, pink, red card-stock
  • white thread
  • needle
  • scissors (paper-edgers)
  • cupcake liners
  • buttons

Step 1: Cut white card-stock into for pieces using paper-edgers

  • I folded the paper in half and then in half again, making it easy for the children to cut along the line.

Step 2: Fold paper into a small rectangular card.

Step 3: Cut hearts out of red and pink card-stock using paper-edgers

  • My children already know how to fold a small square in half to cut a symmetrical heart.

Step 4: Teach children how to stitch along center line of heart.

  • Very important to teach children how to handle the needle safely.
  • After the children know how to stitch, you can skip this step.

Step 5: Stitch heart to front of card along center line

MacGyver, age 8 and Miss Enigma, age 5

Cupcake liner & Button Valentine Cards

Step One: Each of the children selected one button

  • Since this was the kiddos first time to sew-on a button, I had them select a button with only two holes.

Step 2: Sew-on button and cupcake liner

Miss Enigma, age 5 and MacGyver, age 8

I was pleasantly surprised by how much the kiddos enjoyed learning how to stitch and sew-on buttons. They are begging me to make more cards. We are learning how to stitch around the heart and how to sew-on buttons with four holes. Each of the cards they create is a beautiful and unique work of art. They are extremely excited to share these with family and friends.
