Book of the Week GIVEAWAY: Living Color by Steve Jenkins
Why we love this book:
Steve Jenkins is one of our favorite nonfiction authors. He uniquely combines art and science to create books that are equally beautiful and educational. His stunning artwork in Living Color emphasizes the fact that animals come in so many amazing hues.
Each page highlights a different color and many facts about the ingenious ways animals use that color in nature. The text teaches how animals use colors in different ways to survive in our world. We especially like how both young and old can enjoy this book. Young children can look at the engaging animal illustrations while learning their colors. Older children can soak up all of the interesting facts shared in the text.
Now that we’re all inspired let’s continue with our summer art and color study . . .
Living Color Murals Extention Activity:
- Let children search through animal magazines for brightly colored animals.
- Have the children cut out and sort the animals by color.
- Glue animals onto paper or poster board by color creating Living Color Murals.
- Older children can add little index cards with facts about the animals.

Lazy Lavender that really needs to change to Energized Yellow!
This book looks really great!
I am trying really hard to be optimistic orange today, but there’s a little bit of moody blue mixed in, too. Ah well …
I am so excited to hear about your overseas adventures!
Ellie, Joyce returns from South Africa tomorrow with her “Door of Hope” daughter Alyssa. They’re actually in the air right now. They’ll have so much to share.
I’ve been so busy planning for my teacher training trip to Cambodia that it has been hard to find time to share. Hopefully next week I can find time to share about my upcoming trip to Svay Pak, Cambodia!
Great paintings! My mood today is polka-dots between stressed black and excited orange. We also love Jenkins’ books but don’t have any in our home collection.
Moody Blue….
Engergized yellow.
We’re waiting to get approved for a new place to live, so my mood is definitely energized yellow today!
I’m a rainbow today… feeling moody.
The kids are out of school and we get to play all day, so I’d be a happy orange.
Is there a wiped out white? After braving Six Flags yesterday with 3 boys (10yrs, 3yrs and 6 months), I would have to say this is my mood.
Lazy Lavender!!!!! LOL – The book looks wonderful and colorful! kevinkaylaarrowood123 at yahoo dot com
Blue…I’m so blue…
I’m mellow yellow today
I always love seeing your children’s artwork – so beautiful!!!
Thank you for linking up to Learning Laboratory at Mama Smiles!
What color describes my mood today?
My color is Yellow because I feel energetic and excited because I’m taking a trip to California with the family. Yellow makes me feel ready to what ever comes my way. Yellow is the color of the sun rays that lightens up my day. Yellow, Yellow makes me feel alive.
I am definately a lazy lavender with all this heat
Hot Red today – its soo hot and humid today, even the spray park wasn’t much relief
Lazy lavender.
