Yesterday, I introduced you to our FREE printable Five Little Pumpkins Package including a FREE printable book, pumpkin counters and poem cards.
Today we are putting on a Five Little Pumpkins Puppet Show! Miss Enigma invited MacGyver, age 9, to join in on the puppet show fun.
Five Little Pumpkins Puppet Show
Following Directions Art Activity
Supplies:
- Five Little Pumpkins FREE printable book
- Five Little Pumpkins FREE printable poem cards
- orange and green paper
- black marker
- scissors
- Popsicle sticks
- glue
Step 1: Fold Paper and Cut into Fourths
- I modeled for the children how to fold their paper into four equal rectangles.
- When teaching in the classroom, I always taught my students the more equal hamburger fold versus the long skinny hotdog fold.
- The hamburger fold and hotdog fold are easy visuals for children to follow when folding paper for activities.
- “Fold your paper in half like a hamburger bun.”
- “Did you fold your paper like a hamburger or a long skinny hotdog bun?”
- The children unfolded their paper and cut along the lines, giving them four small pieces of paper.
Step 2: Cut Pumpkins
- I modeled for the children how to fold their small paper using the hamburger fold.
- Next, I showed the children how to cut a half circle to create a pumpkin.
- Miss Enigma, “This is how we make hearts!”
- Each of the children cut two pumpkins and they used my pumpkin as the 5th pumpkin.
Step 3: Draw Pumpkin Face
- The children used Sharpie Markers to create no smear pumpkin faces.
Step 4: Cut Pumpkin Vines
- The children used the small green rectangles they cut earlie.
- I modeled for the children how to cut a spiral vine.
- Talk about developing fine motor skills!
- The children glued the vines onto their pumpkins.
Step 5: Glue on Puppet Sticks
- The children used the pumpkin nose as a marker for how high to glue the stick.
Step 6: Glue Poem Words onto Back of Pumpkins
- The children divided up the 5 pumpkin talking verses.
- Five Little Pumpkins FREE printable poem cards
Step 7: Practice, Preform and Celebrate!
- It is wonderful to see two children of very different ages coming together to cooperate, learn and have fun.
- Just the way life should be!
