The Important Thing About My Daddy - Father's Day Poem from Kids:

Books for Kids GIVEAWAY: The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown

Why we love this book:

This morning the kiddos and I began brainstorming Father’s Day gifts for Daddy. Rather than big material gifts, the children like to make personalized gifts for Daddy. And he absolutely adores these thoughtful little gifts. In a few days, MacGyver will turn twelve (that’s just crazy). After twelve years of creative Father’s Day gifts, I found myself a bit stumped for a new idea. Thank goodness I have ingenious kiddos. During our brainstorming session, Miss Enigma rambled on and on with ideas when suddenly she announced, “I’ve got it! We should write The Important Thing About Daddy Book!” What a fabulous idea! As of this morning, we have our Father’s Day Gift idea.

In the past, the kids have used The Important Book template to write their own poems on a variety of topics. For those who aren’t familiar the basic pattern is quite simple:

The important thing about ________________   is ________________.

It ____________________________________________________.

It ____________________________________________________.

It ____________________________________________________.

But the important things about ______________ is ________________.

The Important Thing About My Daddy

A Father’s Day Poem from Kids

The Important Thing About My Daddy - Father's Day Poem from children:

We literally brainstormed this idea (with thanks to Miss Enigma) this morning driving to Grandma & Grandpa’s house. Needless to say, the kiddos don’t have cute little Important Thing About Daddy Poems ready for me to post. So I quickly put together a little poem myself. My father has a big personality and I can attribute many of my interests directly to him. But the thing I remember most about my childhood with my father is that he was a fun Daddy who actually played with me. He was the father that wasn’t afraid to be silly and playful. He did stuff like climb in my backyard kiddie pool and let me pretend I was a baby hippo. He is well known by my friends as the father who would pull down his guitar on Saturday mornings after breakfast and make up silly songs on the spot about us. That was always a hit with friends! Childhood friends still bring up this sleepover ritual.

But the important thing about My Daddy is that he always played with me and made me feel important!

Maybe next week, the kiddos will have their poems ready to share. (Or maybe not, we have a few celebrations between now and then . . . it’s a BUSY time of year in our family!) I can’t wait to read what the children write. They always make Daddy laugh and then throw in a sweet little tear jerker for good measure. We never know what to expect from them!

For my kids, I think they would say that he is funny. My dad is an amazing storyteller.
